I’m an associate in Ropes & Gray's Intellectual Property Group. I have been practicing in patent litigation, opinion work and client counseling since graduating from law school in 2000. I did my undergraduate work in molecular biology at the University of Colorado, receiving a B.A. in 1987. I then worked for three years as a research scientist, focusing primarily on developmental biology in fruit flies. In 1990, I moved to Boston to begin a Ph.D program at Brandeis University in molecular biology. I studied the molecular structure of the protein actin, bound with a protein fragment called the villin headpiece. Upon graduating in 1997, I moved to California to start law school. During my first summer, I worked for Brobeck Phleger & Harrison, and during my second summer, I worked for Fish & Neave. I was managing editor of the Stanford Technology Law Review from 1999-2000.
When I graduated law school, I went to work for Fish &Neave, which merged with Ropes & Gray in 2005, prosecuting patents and writing patent opinion letters. I discovered that I enjoyed litigation, and I began working on a pharmaceutical case within my first year of practice. Since then, I have worked on pharmaceutical and biotechnology litigations, including Federal Circuit appeals and a petition for certiorari.
My current practice is divided between IP litigation, client counseling on a variety of IP matters, and oversight on a number of international matters, including patent prosecution strategy, opposition proceedings, and international litigation.
I enjoy spending time with my children, as well as traveling, snorkeling, hiking, and cooking. I also practice yoga and play chamber music (violin).
