I joined Ropes & Gray in 1983 and became a partner in 1993.  I graduated from Boston College in 1978 and Boston College Law in 1983.  Before law school and during a one-year break from practice afterwards, I worked at the State House in Boston, serving for a time as Chief of Staff and Budget Director of the House Ways and Means Committee.

I am a partner in the Corporate Department and my practice is focused on representing companies on board of director and senior executive level matters.  I also enjoy studying the development of public policy and, as an outgrowth of those policies, the challenge of advising clients on significant regulatory issues.  Earlier in my career, I taught a course at Boston College Law School for five years on the creation of public policy through legislation.  The broad array of industries in which my clients are active include banking and financial services, alcoholic beverages, sports, and investment advisory services.

My typical day will involve providing direct advice to clients and supervising young lawyers on mergers and acquisitions, financings, securities offerings, contract negotiations and corporate governance matters.  Frequently these matters require creative and customized solutions.

I am committed to community service, as a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Action for Boston Community Development, which is one of the nation's most respected community action programs.  I also serve as an active board member of Associated Industries of Massachusetts, which is an influential interest group focused on promoting businesses in Massachusetts, and the Metropolitan Boston Housing Partnership, a non-profit that seeks to provide access to affordable housing for low income families.

In my leisure time, I enjoy spending time with my three children, playing squash and golf, and cheering on the Boston Red Sox and BC Eagles.
