I am a sixth-year associate practicing primarily in the Investment Management Group of the Corporate Department. I grew up in Charleston, WV, graduated from Marshall University in 2000 with a B.B.A. in Accounting and received a J.D. from Washington and Lee University School of Law in 2003. My practice is largely representational. I work mostly with registered investment companies and registered investment advisers, providing advice regarding regulatory issues relating to the federal securities laws. I also work with private investment funds and with a university endowment management company. Outside the office, I enjoy weightlifting, precision and tactical shooting, travel and, though I use the term loosely, golfing.

I joined Ropes & Gray for the same reason that I attended Washington and Lee – a close-knit, collegial environment of highly intelligent people committed to doing their best at all times. Just as W&L made for a challenging and supportive academic environment, so too has R&G made for a challenging, collaborative and rewarding professional experience. When I joined the firm in 2003, I sampled an array of corporate practices before landing in the IM Group. At the time, the changing regulatory face of the investment management industry, the level of responsibility available to junior associates and the challenging nature of the practice were all substantial lures. Little has changed in that regard. The ever-changing regulatory framework within which I work makes for a dynamic and interesting practice, and I have learned that my thirst for increased challenge and responsibility seldom goes unquenched, even as I become more senior. My practice is varied, and includes the representation of large and small mutual fund complexes, the representation of registered investment advisers and investment advisers considering registration, the preparation and review of regulatory filings, disclosure and offering documents, contracts, policies and other materials, the formation of registered and unregistered investment companies and many varied special projects. I also spend a substantial amount of time coaching and developing my junior colleagues on an informal basis, something that I see as integral to my practice. Close client contact, diverse client relationships, a commitment to training and development and a broad array of easygoing, highly accomplished colleagues round out what has been and continues to be a wonderful practice.

I practice in the Boston office, and spend a portion of each day mesmerized by the harbor activity outside my window.
