I have worked at Ropes & Gray since 1996, and in 2004 became a partner in the Bankruptcy & Business Restructuring Department. Prior to attending law school (Boston University, 1995), I served in the United States Navy as an officer aboard the frigate USS Miller (FF-1091), stationed in Newport, Rhode Island. I attended college at Cornell University, graduating in 1988. My wife, Deborah, and I enjoy spending time with our sons, Cameron, Jackson and Willem, and cooking; I specialize in rolling sushi and in dessert baking.
My practice includes both transactional work and bankruptcy litigation. I have played significant roles in a variety of cases and corporate transactions: representing the holders of $5 billion of commercial paper of KKR Financial Corp. as part of the current mortgage-loan crisis; representation of Genuity Inc. in its bankruptcy case; the sale at auction of the recipes and trademarks for Fannie Farmer candies; hostile takeovers of companies that are undergoing Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganizations; successful purchase, at auction, of significant assets of NordicTrack; and the restructuring of the high-yield debt of a multistate casino company. My bankruptcy practice has me regularly appearing in court and conducting litigation. I have also worked in pro bono matters that include prisoner's rights litigation, construction litigation for an inner-city arts education center and the $9 million settlement from Riggs Bank that Ropes & Gray lawyers helped obtain for the victims of former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet.
While at Boston University School of Law, I served as Managing Editor of the Law Review. I clerked for the late Honorable Paul J. Liacos, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
