Peter Brody is a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Ropes & Gray, and a former co-head of the firm’s Intellectual Property Group. His practice focuses on civil litigation, at the trial and appellate levels, in federal and state courts across the country. He also has handled numerous arbitrations and administrative and regulatory proceedings. In addition to intellectual property and technology litigation, Peter’s areas of particular expertise include false advertising and unfair competition, administrative law, and alcoholic beverage law and regulation.
Peter has served as lead trial counsel in IP cases involving such diverse technologies as GPS vehicle tracking systems, notebook computers, geostationary communications satellites, the Internet, rockets and launch vehicles, and genetically engineered therapeutics. He also has handled numerous trademark, false advertising, and regulatory disputes on behalf of clients in a wide range of industries, including pharmaceuticals, financial services, alcoholic beverages, and personal care and cosmetics. Peter also has an active pro bono practice representing indigent clients in criminal cases in the federal trial and appellate courts.
In addition to his law practice, Peter lectures and writes extensively on intellectual property and alcoholic beverage law and practice, serves as the Chair of the Legal Advisory Committee of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, and is a member of the Committee on Criminal Justice Act Procedures for the U.S. Court of Appeals, D.C. Circuit.
